‘Dialogue of Generations’ Wit Bogusławski and Christopher Ostrzeszewicz

17:11 24/07/2014

On Friday July 25th in Warsaw Gallery 101 Project will hold the opening of an exhibition entitled ‘Dialogue of Generations’, showing the work of Wit Bogusławski and Christopher Ostrzeszewicz.

Although both artists have worked in many different artistic forms - including drawing, painting, photography - it is with sculpture that the present exhibition is concerned. As the title suggests, a ‘dialogue’ leads to a reflection on the work of artists of different generations, for whom sculpture remains the dominant medium of expression. The human figure and face are of interest to both artists. The younger of them - Christopher Ostrzeszewicz - combines in his work a fascination with ancient tradition and with Cubism; while for Wit Bogusławski the emphasis is on texture and matter - both natural, such as stone and clay, and artificial, such as bronze or steel.

In addition to the exhibition of sculptures by both artists, visitors will be able to see oil paintings by Wit Bogusławski, such as ‘Faces I’ or ‘Whispering,’ that serve to complement his sculptural works by revealing the artist's interest in creating spatial forms on the canvas.

Opening: 25.07.2014 at 6:00 pm.

Exhibition: 26.07. – 09.08. 2014

Wit Bogusławski was born in 1960 and started his education in 1982 attending the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. After four years he came back to Poland and continued his studies in Warsaw and afterwards at the  Faculty of Painting, Graphics and Sculpture in the studio of Professor Leon Podsiadły in Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts.

Bogusławski is a member of ZPAP, and the associations ‘Fabryka Sztuki’, ‘Składnica Sztuki’ and ‘Grupa Hoovera’. His main area of interests include oil painting and sculpture, but he also creates drawings, photographs, ceramics and interior designs.

The artist has shown his works in Great Britain, Belgium, Turkey and Finland. In Poland, it has been seen in Warsaw Zachęta (1990), DAP ZPAP Gallery (2012), and also in an individual exhibition in Gallery 8+ (2014).

Krzysztof Ostrzeszewicz was born in 1985. When he was twenty years old, he began his studies in the Faculty of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. His thesis "Pieta" was awarded honours and shown at the exhibition "Coming Out – Najlepsze dyplomy ASP".

Besides sculptures, the artist is also involved in drawing, painting, photography, illustration and designing book covers.

In 2010, the Theatre Academy in Warsaw honored the sculptor by commissioning him to design and build a tombstone for Zbigniew Zapasiewicz. The result dedicated to the actor can be seen today at Warsaw Military Powązki cemetery. Other works of the artist were presented, among others, at the exhibition ZPAP - "Young trick - in the mind" (2012), graduate of Fine Arts exhibition "The Youngest" (2012), and the second Festival of Arts "Young at Art" (2013).
