Her work among the finest achievements in the art of the twentieth century and the work can be found in the collections of more than a hundred museums and galleries, and in open spaces all over the world - from European countries, Australia, USA, Israel, Morocco, Korea, to Japan.

The exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York ("Abakanowicz on the Roof," MoMA 1999) - literally and metaphorically - came to the summit of the largest available. For years it represents the prestigious Marlborough Gallery New York.

Magdalena Abakanowicz is from the family gentry. Is the admixture of Tartar blood. It stresses that her childhood shaped his personality in the country, the experience of World War II, loss of family wealth and life in PRL reality. She studied at the College of Fine Arts in Sopot and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in prof. E. Plutyńska and M. Włodarski (Diploma in 1954). Artistic path started from the novel "abakany". Large-scale tapestries with architectural and sculptural qualities. They were not in season "(as the writing). However, soon proved to be ticket to the world of art, debut at the International Biennial of Tapestry in Lausanne in 1962, Grand Prix VIII Art Biennale, Sao Paulo 1965. Between 70 the resulting series of "organic structure" formed, among others workowego from the canvas. The artist said then: "between me and the material from which I create, there is no intermediary tool. (...) My hands transmit my energy to it. "Late monumental sculptures in metal, stone, wood also recall the association with energy, but strongly aggregate as powerful elements ... stupid, armless" The people I "(1976-80), "Anonymous Head" (1973-75), "Back " (1976-80), "Odwróceni" (1993-94), or even "War Games" (1989). In 80 years, Magdalena Abakanowicz began to create "spaces of experience "to pursuing further projects in the open air such as "Zastygłe" (Japan 1993), "Rolling" (USA 1999), "Unrecognized" (Poland 2002 - the largest of the existing implementation, includes a 112 iron). In the preparation of "Agora" (Chicago, May 2006, delayed the project).

Her works are scattered all over the world including at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, National Gallery of Art in Washington, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Museum in Wroclaw (the largest collection of in Poland).

His artists are more than 100 individual exhibitions: Pasadena Art Museum (Los Angeles 1971), Whitechapel Art Gallery (London 1975), Musee d `Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (1982), Season Museum of Modern Art (Tokyo 1991), Center for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw 1995), Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York 1999), Museum Beelden aan Zee (The Hague 2003). A number of awards, and titles, such as honorary doctorates awarded by the Royal College of Art in London, or the U.S.: Rhode Island School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art.

According to Magdalena Abakanowicz art does not serve decorating environment. Therefore, attempts to restore sculpture their original meaning and seriousness. Her work has always strongly at the border of nature and civilization. Certainly, such action should be (unrealized) project arborealnej architecture, prepared to order the authorities of Paris.

The artist confesses: "I do not like rules and regulations. They are enemies of the imagination. " Perhaps this makes it ever reaches the new materials, another technique to tell the same story - of the human condition in the modern world.
